    What is SCORM?

    Definition

SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) is an e-learning standard for packaging course content so any compliant LMS can play it and track results. It defines how a course and a learning platform communicate — launching content and reporting completion, score and time. SCORM is why a course built in one tool can run and be tracked in another.

    In short

    SCORM at a glance.

A standard for packaging e-learning so any LMS can play it
Tracks completion, score and time back to the platform
Makes courses portable between different systems
xAPI is the more modern successor for richer tracking

    SCORM vs xAPI

SCORM tracks course-level results (completion, score) inside an LMS. xAPI (Experience API) is newer and records granular learning experiences anywhere, not just inside an LMS. ContentBuilder imports and exports both, so migrating off a legacy LMS keeps your content and history.

    SCORM — frequently asked

SCORM is used to package e-learning content so it can run and be tracked in any compliant LMS. It standardizes how a course reports completion, score and time, which makes courses portable between systems and simplifies moving content when you switch platforms.

SCORM tracks course-level results inside an LMS; xAPI records more granular learning experiences and works beyond the LMS. xAPI is the more modern standard, but SCORM is still widely supported. ContentBuilder handles both for import and export.
