What is Buyer Persona?
Definition
A Buyer Persona is a semi-fictional, detailed profile of a typical target buyer or user, created through research on actual customers and prospect behavior. Personas typically include name, title, responsibilities, goals, challenges, buying criteria, and information sources. Unlike the Ideal Customer Profile which describes the company, buyer personas describe the individuals making or influencing purchase decisions within companies.

Buyer Persona vs Ideal Customer Profile
The ICP describes the company (industry, size, use case), while buyer personas describe the people (titles, goals, concerns). A learning platform might have one ICP ('mid-market manufacturers') but multiple personas: the Chief Learning Officer (cares about ROI and compliance), the HR director (cares about employee retention), and the operations manager (needs easy integration and minimal disruption). Effective sales and marketing address each persona's specific motivations.
